Our Mission
The Center for Learning and Student Success (CLASS) provides comprehensive, high-quality academic support programs in partnership with offices and academic departments across Rutgers-Camden. Our programs and services are designed to empower students to develop skills and strategies that foster academic success and personal growth. CLASS supports students to achieve their academic goals through one-on-one tutoring sessions, supplemental instruction, workshops, and peer academic coaching.
CLASS Services
- Peer Tutoring
- Course-specific tutoring is available to undergraduate students through the CLASS Peer Tutoring Program. Peer Tutors are Rutgers-Camden students who have earned a B+ or better in the course(s) they tutor, have been recommended by a faculty member, and receive ongoing training both in current tutoring practices and tutoring strategies relevant to their tutoring discipline.
- Learning Support
- CLASS provides comprehensive support services designed to enhance students’ learning skills that help achieve academic success. Our programs focus on developing responsible and autonomous learners by offering tailored resources that address diverse learning styles and needs, ensuring that every student can thrive in their academic journey. Through academic coaching, effective resources, and collaborative partnering, we empower students to build confidence, improve their study habits, and effectively integrate knowledge across disciplines.
- Transfer Student Services
- Our transfer student support is designed to facilitate a smooth transition for incoming students from other colleges, ensuring they feel welcomed and integrated into our campus community. CLASS offers personalized academic coaching and tailored resources to help students navigate their new environment and achieve their academic goals. Additionally, our transfer program includes peer mentorship and social integration opportunities, fostering connections that enhance both academic and personal success during their college journey.
- AANAPI Student Success Coaching
- CLASS understands the unique challenges Asian-American, Native-American, and Pacific Islander students can face during college. We provide evidence-based interventions that foster retention, credit accumulation, and completion to graduation through student-centered high-impact practices.
- Hands-on Academic Recovery Program (HARP)
- HARP is an academic recovery intervention program for students on Academic Probation or Continued Academic Probation. Students meet with a Learning Specialist several times throughout the semester and, based on their individual needs, receive academic resources, encouragement, and support to overcome challenges. The goal of the Hands-on Academic Recovery Program is for students to restore their academic standing and prevent dismissal.
- Bounce Back – Support for Students on Academic Warning
- Bounce Back is an intervention program that supports students on Academic Warning who may be at risk of being placed on academic probation. Students complete a self-reflection survey and a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) and meet with a Learning Specialist or mentor several times throughout the semester.
- Peer Academic Coaching
- Peer Academic Coaches are undergraduate student leaders who provide individual support for students in the following areas: time management, motivation & procrastination, note-taking, and reading strategies.
