CLASS Services
We provide academic support to all Rutgers-Camden undergraduate students. CLASS programs are facilitated by professional staff, graduate students, and trained undergraduate peer leaders who have previously excelled in their courses.
Success Coaches
CLASS offers access to all students for in-person and virtual peer tutoring with our Success Coaching program. Tutoring may be one-on-one or in small groups.
Supplemental Instruction (SI)
SI Leaders are peer tutors assigned to specific sections of courses and hold two weekly study sessions. Sessions focus on the most challenging content being covered in class. The SI Session schedule is posted on the CLASS website each week and communicated in a course by the SI Leader.
Learning Specialist for Individual and Group Sessions
Our Learning Specialist assists students in developing study skills, setting goals, and connecting to a variety of campus resources. Sessions can be scheduled for group classroom visits as well as for one-on-one for students who are in academic distress (below 2.0 gpa). We work with students to address:
- Time and project management
- Academic reading and writing
- Note-taking
- Exam preparation
- Test-taking
- Self-regulation and flexibility
Faculty Opportunities
CLASS offers a number of ways for faculty to participate in our programs and services.
Request a class visit by an experienced staff member
We recognize that your class time is a precious commodity but inviting a CLASS representative may be an excellent way of informing your students about the CLASS resources. At any time during the semester, you can contact us to arrange a class visit. Our peer tutors are also excellent resources for your students. If students are not using our services as much as you would like, please contact us to invite one of our tutors to come to the class and share our services with them.
Recommend students to become tutors
If you think one of your former students would be an excellent tutor, please discuss the possibility with the student, and if he or she is willing, please refer them to our office for more information. All tutors must obtain faculty recommendations for each course they tutor for. Some tutors may approach you to request that you fill out the Faculty Recommendation Form. We hope that you see this as the honor it is intended to be. Please send completed form to: Dr. Ajeenah Nuriddin-Little, ahn26@camden.rutgers.edu.
Faculty Referrals
Thank you for recommending CLASS services to your students. Please note:
- Some professors include our contact information in their syllabi.
- Others invite us into the class to present a five-minute introduction to our services.
- Many find referring to individual students equally valuable.
Students can visit CLASS at any point in the semester to request help in a course. We will do our best to meet their request and always suggest that students work with their professors in addition to seeking tutoring assistance.
In-Classroom Workshops and Presentations
The Rutgers-Camden CLASS offers workshops for courses, student groups, and organizations eager to collaborate to tailor workshop content to specific groups and needs. Workshops vary in length and topic, including metacognition, test prep, time management, success strategies, and more. Are you interested in learning more about our workshop topics? View our workshop menu below, and find our workshop request form, here. Not sure which to choose? Contact CLASS today at 856-225-6442 to talk through options.
Workshops are most effective when:
- We plan with you in advance to tailor the workshop to the particular student group’s needs and interests
- The instructor is present to introduce the workshop, its context in the class, and participate throughout
- Students have the chance to ask questions and think critically about what they’re hearing
Become a CLASS Faculty Partner
We are proud of our faculty partners and academic colleges contributing to student success at Rutgers University-Camden. Faculty Partners serve in an advisory capacity for CLASS programs, services, and discipline-specific content. Partners also serve as liaisons between CLASS, their departments, and colleges to ensure regular, timely, and mutually beneficial communications and feedback. We work together on development activities to assist undergraduate students in achieving their highest levels of intellectual and personal development.
Syllabi Support
Some faculty put CLASS offerings directly in their Syllabi to encourage students to participate.
